Approach & Vision
Vrije Vormen transforms sustainably harvested local wood into furniture and interior pieces. This material comes from trees that have been felled due to disease, storms, old age, or other causes. Often, this wood ends up in the fireplace, a wood chipper, or a landfill. It is frequently beautiful material that can be used to create unique and valuable products.
Vrije Vormen works with wood in its natural form. Every tree, branch, or root is different and yields a unique piece of furniture or interior design with character—and is often inspiring. You can tell from the wood how the tree grew and what it has been through. This sparks curiosity and often leads to a meaningful conversation in which learning about trees and nature plays an important role.
Taken together, this vision contributes to a responsible and compelling product that, thanks to its craftsmanship and high quality, is built to last. Making maximum use of the raw material is an important sustainability consideration.
Additionally, the local element is an important sustainability consideration. Why not create something from trees in your city or neighborhood? By using wood from nearby trees, the product captures the imagination and comes more to life. This fosters a greater appreciation for and connection with trees and nature.
The furniture workshop is located in Voorhout. This area is home to several old-growth forests with a diverse range of tree species. This also means a variety of woods, primarily from Dutch trees but also including exotic species. The local character contributes to a green business and creates furniture and interior pieces that tell a story inspired by nature through Vrije Vormen.

I absolutely love nature in all its forms. Nature is my greatest artist and source of inspiration. I am a part of it, and I want to keep nature and the Earth as healthy as possible.
This is what I do with “Free Forms”—by using wood that would otherwise go to waste; a marvelous material derived from trees that play an enormous and crucial role in an ecosystem.
I offer an alternative to other products that are less sustainable or even harmful. Local, sustainable, responsible, and handcrafted. I showcase the richness of the tree and invite people to be curious and filled with wonder. This is how I convey my message: as inhabitants of Earth, let’s cultivate a positive and mindful relationship with nature. In this way, we build a resilient and healthy future for people, plants, and animals.
Location
Vrije Vormen is conveniently located in the Randstad region of South Holland, easily accessible and surrounded by natural greenery. There are many old-growth forests here that yield high-quality wood.
